MSA
measurement system analysis
The set of studies that prove a measurement system is fit for its purpose: resolution, bias and Type 1 study, linearity, stability, Gage R&R and attribute agreement. The AIAG MSA manual and VDA 5 describe the methods; IATF 16949 requires MSA for every measurement system in the control plan.
Calculate it
Gage R&R (MSA): Crossed study with ANOVA: repeatability, reproducibility, %GRR, % tolerance and ndc.
Related terms
- %GRR: gauge repeatability and reproducibility
- Bias: systematic measurement error
- Linearity: change of bias over the measuring range
- Cg and Cgk: gauge capability (type 1 study)
