design failure mode and effects analysis

The DFMEA analyses how a product design could fail to deliver its function and what the effects would be on the next higher level and the customer. It is done by the design team before the design is released.

The process FMEA (PFMEA) follows it and looks at how the manufacturing process could produce a defective part.
