Fractional factorial design
a planned subset of a full factorial
Runs = 2^(k − p)
Runs only a half, a quarter or a smaller fraction of the full factorial. It saves trials when many factors must be screened, at the price that some effects can no longer be separated from each other (aliasing).
The resolution of the design says which effects are mixed: in a resolution IV design main effects are clear of two-factor interactions, but two-factor interactions are aliased with each other.
