First article inspection

full check of the first parts against the drawing

First article inspection (FAI) verifies the first parts from a new tool, process or change against all requirements of the drawing and specification, with a full dimensional report and material and process records. In aerospace it follows the AS9102 forms.

It proves that the setup can make a conforming part once. Capability shows that it can make it continually.
