quality management system

A quality management system is the set of processes, responsibilities, rules and records with which an organisation plans, controls and improves quality. It is the system behind the products, not a binder of documents.

A QMS can be certified against ISO 9001. Automotive suppliers add IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements on top.
