How the capacity is calculated
Demonstrated rate = good parts / (run duration − planned breaks). Weekly capacity = rate × days × shifts × net hours. The chart compares the ideal capacity from the cycle time, the capacity at the quoted OEE, the demonstrated capacity and the customer demand.
Frequently asked questions
›What is a run at rate?
A production trial under series conditions (tools, operators, gauges, cycle time) that proves the line can produce the quoted volume with good quality. It is part of PPAP for many OEMs, sometimes called significant production run or capacity verification.
›How long should the run be?
Customers often ask for at least one shift or 300 consecutive parts, sometimes 24 hours. Check the customer-specific requirements.
›What if the capacity is too low?
Find the main loss with OEE (downtime, speed or scrap), fix it and repeat the run. Plan overtime or additional shifts only as a temporary measure.
