Supplier capability assessment
can this supplier deliver?
A supplier capability assessment checks, before business is awarded or when risk changes, whether a supplier can deliver parts that meet the requirements in the required quantity and on time. It covers the quality system, development, production and process control, measurement, sub-supplier management, problem solving and logistics.
Each question is scored on a fixed scale with evidence, the result is calculated per area and overall, and the supplier gets a class such as A, B or C. Critical (knock-out) questions can force class C regardless of the total. It is often sent first as a supplier self-assessment and then verified on site.
