How the score is calculated

  • Quality: 100 points at or below the PPM target, falling on a log scale to 0 at ten times the target.
  • Delivery: 100 at the on-time target, 0 at 80 %, minus 5 points per premium freight.
  • Complaints: 100 minus 25 per complaint in the month.
  • Responsiveness: minus 10 points per day the 8D response exceeds the target.

The weights default to 40 / 30 / 15 / 15 % and can be changed to match your supplier quality manual. Share the PDF with the supplier at the monthly or quarterly review.

Frequently asked questions

›Which KPIs belong in a supplier scorecard?

Most automotive scorecards use quality (PPM and number of complaints), delivery (on-time delivery, premium freight) and responsiveness (8D response and closure time). Some add cost, certification status and audit results.

›How is PPM calculated?

PPM = rejected parts / received parts × 1,000,000. Count the parts rejected because of the supplier, whether found at incoming inspection, in production or at your customer.

›What does class A, B and C mean?

A (≥ 85): preferred supplier, reduced inspection possible. B (70–84): approved with an improvement plan. C (< 70): escalation, for example controlled shipping, new business hold or an on-site audit.
